Together with the Hero Power Fireblast , this card allows the mage to split damage between several enemies in the most efficient way, and set the stage for further clearing with their minions. It may also be used against a single high Health creature in order to soften it, if no controlled direct damage spells are available. Note that each point of damage is dealt individually, making it a bad idea to play this with enemy minions such as Gurubashi Berserker or Frothing Berserker on the board.
As an RNG -heavy card, Arcane Missiles often provides either great satisfaction or great frustration. With the right luck, it can send each missile to exactly the right target, becoming a very effective and very cheap card; with the wrong luck, it can send every missile to exactly the wrong target, foiling the mage's plans or even leading to their defeat. This is part of playing the card, and is generally impossible to avoid entirely.
The target of each missile is determined at random from all available enemy targets, including the enemy hero. Note that as a non-targeted effect, this can include Stealthed targets. If a target is destroyed, that target will no longer be a valid target for the next missile, affecting future probabilities. In World of Warcraft , Arcane Missiles is a channeled Arcane mage spell that shoots a series of missiles at the target dealing direct arcane damage.

Live PTR. Classic TBC. Quick Facts. Comments Comment by This spell is one of the best looking spells in the entire game, in my opinion. If you've seen it, you'll know what I mean. All those blazing purple missiles coming out of the mage's hand, streaking towards the hapless target.
It brilliantly illustrates how mages are the best at burst damage spells. Comment by Arcane talent is probably the best for anyone who wants to be a good damage doer, but also a good crafter of water, food, and a good teleporter. The spell power crits are amazing now especially with Arcane power. Comment by like jmills said, with the new patch, arcane is becoming a much better tree to invest talent points in. Comment by skitzosmeagol Let me get this out so i can benefit a majority of the arcane mages.
Since patch 2. This macro is extremely effective, because you can substitute anything in for example. So these reset commands allow you to customize your macro :. Comment by I love the look of AM, and would love to spec Arcane and use it as my primary attack. I know, the DPM isn't ideal - but I'm going for flavor. My biggest issue, and here's the deal breaker for me, is that AM often omits the first missile. So, I stand there for seconds doing nothing, then I fire one less missile than I should have.
Until Blizzard fixes this bug, AM is no good. Comment by As blizzard has said, arcane spells are going to be the mage's highest dps spells BUT at a mana efficiency expense So it is feassible to even crit for per missile with AP and a trinket open in a raid or even higher if you happen to have better equip than mine : p just learn to use Arcane missiles at clearcasting or make sure to go for arcane blast till you have debuffs before continuing with AM :.
Comment by Serathis How much spell damage does this spell gain? Comment by Also it should be noted that if you begin the cast of AM, and your target leaves line of sight; it will continue to channel the spell for the full duration providing you dont get interrupted somehow. This makes it very useful in places such as Blades Edge arena which relies quite heavily on line of sighting others.
Definately worth getting if you're thinking about putting any talents into Arcane. Comment by yobo AM being effected by haste has made this deadly.
With Icy Veins and berserking and other haste gear this little spell can be brought down to 2. Also AM is the only spell that can crit on individualt ticks. Also note that with all the resiliance going around AM is the only spell that can keep constant white dmg negating the benifits of resiliance.
When you cast a fireball against a pvp target with resiliance the chance of a crit is reduced and if it crits When you cast AM the ticks are white damage and are not reduced by resiliance. Total damage output of an arcane mage's volley of arcane missles equal about or little less then a crit from a fireball from a fire mage.
If arcane missles crit during those vollies then it does more damage then the fireball even if AM crit was mitigated with the enemies resliliance. Resiliance loses it's benifits. I AM not saying AM is viable in arena. Arcane Missiles is a a level 13 channeled Arcane mage spell that shoots a series of missiles at the target dealing direct arcane damage.
While you stand and channel , Arcane Missiles launches bolts of arcane energy at your target, dealing the given damage each second. Unlike other channeled spells, each second or "tick" is considered a separate direct damage missile which passes through the normal direct damage checks crit , resistance. Furthermore, both the initial cast of Arcane Missiles and each Missile are considered spell hits, resulting in a maximum amount of 5 hits per cast. A known disadvantage of the spell is that it requires you to stay in one space for the 2.
An often overlooked PvP benefit is the rapid speed with which it hits opponents causes regular spell interruption. Between this and [ Slow ] , an Arcane mage can make it exceedingly difficult for an enemy player to get off spells with a cast time.
